Susan Goers, Ed.D.
An educator and administrator for 32 years, Dr. Goers has in depth experience teaching and designing curriculum for the classical education model. Born, raised, and educated in New York State, Dr. Goers had the privilege of attending highly ranked elementary and high schools, as well as Nazareth College of Rochester for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Religious Studies. She then attended Brockport State University and Western Governors University for Master’s Degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and earned her Doctoral Degree in Transformational Leadership from Concordia University. In March, 2015 she traveled to Finland and Sweden to experience education firsthand with her dissertation cohort and decided to bring those elements to the US. Dr. Goers has long aspired to design and start a school focused on family values, core virtues, excellence, and successful purposeful living for graduated students. Capstone Classical has been a fifteen year project and vision. She is honored to have the prerogative to see it through to the launch. Dr. Goers has taught all grades except kindergarten and specialized in Language and Science in the upper grades, as well as teaching philosophy, psychology, and forensics for many years.
Among many other accolades Dr. Goers was honored to be the 2011 Utah Charter School Educator of the Year. Throughout the years she has earned awards in the areas of Science (NASA sponsored teachers), Math (Raytheon Math Hero), English (nationally published students in poetry and prose), and Forensics (nationally placing students in speech and debate). Dr. Goers is a current member of a number of professional organizations, among them are AMLE (Association for Middle Level Education), NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English), NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Math), AAE (Association of American Educators), ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), and AAUW( American Association of University Women).
Dr. Goers resides in Plain City with her husband Ron, and enjoys spending time with her three children and six grandchildren.
Mr. Lynn Hinckley, M.Ed.
Director of Counseling/Assessment
An educator, coach, and administrator for over 23 years, and an engineer officer, commander and staff officer with Utah National Guard for 26 years, Mr. Hinckley brings expertise to the strategic team of Capstone Classical Academy. Spending 34 years in education, with 23 in the Granite School District and 7 in the Ogden School District, and then serving in two other charter schools within the state, Mr. Hinckley will use his experience and education to solidify the counseling department, which is the center of the educational model for Capstone. Mr. Hinckley earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology and Education, his Master’s in School Counseling and his Administration endorsement all from Utah State University. He currently makes his home, with his wife Teri, in West Point, Utah where he manages a small farm and enjoys his 11 children and 33 grandchildren.
Michael Arthur, Ed.D.
Assistant Director/Community Builder
Dr. Arthur joins the administrative team at Capstone Classical Academy after teaching at both Rogue Community College and Concordia University in Oregon. As a postsecondary instructor, he taught courses such as Business Ethics, Introduction to Business, and Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) to adult learners from various backgrounds and life experiences. His expertise in these areas will shape our internship program as well as help determine our concurrent enrollment program. Dr. Arthur’s relational experience with students will be a vital asset to building our community of scholars upon the eight core virtues of the school.
Prior to working at the college-level, Dr. Arthur was employed for several years as a News Director and talk show host for radios stations also located in Oregon.
Dr. Arthur earned his bachelor’s degree in management and organizational leadership from George Fox University in 2001. He later earned his masters and doctoral degrees, both from Concordia University. His primary emphasis during the doctoral program was teacher leadership.
Dr. Arthur enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage sons and is excited to help promote the worthy mission of Capstone Classical Academy.
Mr. Christopher Gurnee
Chairman of the Board
Owner of Cornerstone Financial and Associates, Inc. in Ogden, Utah, Mr. Gurnee brings business ownership experience to the Board. Mr. Gurnee has simultaneously owned and operated multiple successful business entities. Mr. Gurnee is affiliated with Foresters Equity Services out of San Diego, CA. As a leader in the investment field, placing as one of the top Investment Advisor Representatives and Registered Representatives, Mr. Gurnee is versed in how to set up a business and sustain it over the years. Cornerstone Financial is a high profile business with a sophisticated clientele. Mr. Gurnee is committed to sharing his business expertise with the Capstone Board.
Mr. Gurnee and his wife Rebecca currently homeschool their two children. As an engaged father he is intentional about the direction of his children’s education.
Mr. Gurnee has studied at Weber State University along with various CE courses throughout the years.

Mrs. Brittni Donnelson, CGW
Secretary of the Board
Mrs. Donnelson is joining the Board with more than 10 years of non-profit volunteer and employment experience in Christian Schools, Washington Heights Church, and The Pregnancy Care Center of Ogden. She contributes a vast amount of knowledge to the Board while currently under employed as a paralegal with Feller & Wendt, LLC. Mrs. Donnelson earned her paralegal certification from Weber State University and is a certified Grant Writer and Non-Profit Manager through the University of Central Florida. Mrs. Donnelson and her husband Sam make their home in Hooper.
Mr. Aaron Stringer, Esq.
Trustee of the Board
Mr. Stringer is the owner of T. Aaron Stringer, Attorney-at-Law, PC in Ogden, Utah. He also serves as Associate Attorney with Lowe Law Group. His practice focuses on personal injury, mass torts, and estate planning.
Mr. Stringer joins the CCA Board having served as the secretary for the Ogden Kiwanis Club, secretary for the Willamette Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, and fundraising coordinator. Mr. Stringer earned his Juris Doctorate at Willamette University College of Law in Oregon, his Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies along with a minor in French all from the University of Utah.
Mr. Stringer’s expertise in legal research and writing, as well as legal compliance will help to direct the CCA Board in legal matters pertaining to running the organization. Mr. Stringer and his family reside in Ogden.
Mrs. Tammi Ross
Trustee of the Board
Mrs. Ross is very excited to be joining the Capstone Board because education has been central to her life. She has had the opportunity to experience a variety of collegiate settings. She attended a small private college, Coe College, her freshman year on a music scholarship. Due to health challenges, she attended Indian Hills Community College her sophomore year. She then completed her bachelor’s in psychology at the University of Iowa. Mrs. Ross then attended the Center for Montessori Teacher Education North Carolina for early education teacher training.
Mrs. Ross has been married to her husband, Phil, for 20 years. She was a part of the Marine Corps Key Wives program during Phil’s career of 20+ years. They have chosen to use a hybrid of charter schools, cooperatives and home school to educate their three children. Mrs. Ross has 18 years of experience in researching, designing and implementing personalized education plans. She is looking forward to working with the counseling department and forming the ILPs for students, as well as working on the Parent and Scholar Handbook. She has coordinated classes in a variety of age groups from Kindergarten through High School, from ancient Greece and Rome hands on learning to high school biology labs and her vast experience will be highly appreciated and sought out by the teachers and staff at CCA.
Mr. Patrick Munson, CPA
Treasurer of the Board
Mr. Munson is the current senior manager of Adams and Peterson, CPA in Layton. As a parent concerned with the educational opportunities available to his children, Mr. Munson has a deep interest in furthering rigorous and excellent education in Utah. A graduate of Utah State University for both his Bachelor’s in Accounting and his MBA, Mr. Munson has been serving in industry for over nine years practicing with non-profit organizations, for profit organizations, and individuals. Mr. Munson is also a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Munson has a vast array of experiences with non-profit organizations serving on the Board as treasurer and serving as grant compliance officer. He will be contributing his skills in these areas to the Capstone Board. He is excited to see Capstone become an excellent college prep opportunity for his own children as well as many others. He and his wife Skye have four beautiful children. They enjoy the outdoors and being involved in the community and their church.
Scott Nowlin, Ph.D.
Trustee of the Board
Dr. Scott Nowlin served for over 24 years in the Air Force and with other organizations as a leader, manager, and technical expert, increasing the performance of aerospace-and-defense-oriented academic, research and development, acquisition, and sustainment units, as well as several non-profit institutions. He attended the Air Force Academy for his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, The University of Texas at Austin for his Masters in Aerospace Engineering and the University of Oxford for a Ph.D in Engineering Science.
Since retiring from the USAF he has found an impactful post-military career where his proven inter-personal and technical skills, self-driven motivation, and focused work ethic are providing direct and measurable benefits to the Air Force Customer. Dr, Nowlin is privileged to continue his service to the Air Force now with a world-class company in an exceptional culture at BAE Systems‘ Intelligence and Security Sector. Dr, Nowlin has a beautiful family; two sons and two daughters and makes his home with his wife Joelyn in Layton. He brings exceptional expertise in the field of college and careers, excellence, and resilience to the Board of Capstone Classical Academy.
